Due to rising trade volumes, supply chain complexities and the concurrent movement of pests and diseases around the world, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) has expanded its biosecurity activities to better manage the growing risk posed by hitchhiker pests such as the Khapra beetle and brown marmorated stink bug.

To recover costs related to its increased efforts, the DAFF will be increasing the Sea Full Import Declaration charge for goods over AUD1000 arriving in Australia by sea from 16th January 2023 from AUD 49 to AUD 59.  This biosecurity cost recovery charge is collected through the Integrated Cargo System.  More information is detailed in the following Customs Notice Australian Customs Notice 2022/50.

Information is also available in DAFF’s Import Industry Advice Notice 275-2022: Changes to biosecurity cost recovery – Commencement of cost recovery to manage the risk of hitchhiker pests and diseases. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the DAFF directly at BioCRIS@agriculture.gov.au.

If you have a sea freight shipment or an airfreight shipment that you are currently concerned with, please contact the team at Clarke Global Logistics for further information and advice on 9854 3000 or send an email to enquiry@clarkeglobal.com.au
