Clarke Global Logistics Marking 100 Years! Thank you

Do you know what happened 100 years ago?  Here is a shortlist of events that affected and inspired the lives of people around the world and in Australia, in 1917:

• The Russian Revolution started after demonstrators clamouring for bread took to the streets in the Russian capital of Petrograd (now called St Petersburg), resulting in the overthrow of the Russian monarchy and power to the Communists.

• In the United States, 28^th President Woodrow Wilson was inaugurated for a second term, with the U.S. entering WWI in this year.

• In Portugal, a vision of the Virgin Mary appeared to 3 children in Fatima.

• In Australia, the General Strike of 1917 began with a massive industrial action involving over 100,000 workers in support of railway workers in Sydney.

• The 7^th Prime Minister of Australia at the time was Billy Hughes.

• Australian painter Frederick McCubbin died and Australian artist Sidney Nolan was born.

• The two halves of the Transcontinental Australian Railway met, stretching across 1,693 kilometres of Australia’s driest and most isolated terrain, to totally complete the line between Kalgoorlie and Port Augusta, providing an important supply chain to outback areas of South Australia and the development of the land in between Port Augusta and the WA border, the legacy of which is still of benefit to supply chain logistics in Australia and South Australia today.

• After initial experience supervising the clearance of steel for the Transcontinental Australian Railway to Perth, Frederick J Clarke founded his own customs agency, Clarke Wilkinson Pty Ltd Customs & Shipping Agents in Melbourne, today known as Clarke Global Logistics and celebrating 100 years of tradition and innovation in customs broking and freight forwarding.

“There aren’t many companies who have been around for as long as we have,” says Jason Kline, Managing Director of Clarke Global Logistics. “We are proud of our past and extremely excited with what is ahead of us. We are continually growing and this is a good thing, having come from a customs background in the company’s formative years, we have moved into a fully integrated trade and logistics service both locally and globally.”

Handling freight of all sizes, especially over-sized, the company which has been in business for 100 years, is renowned for its friendly and personalised service and for its ability to work as a single point of contact for all clients’ global shipping and airfreight supply chain logistics.

Mr Kline says “we value our long-standing relationships with existing clients and third party service providers and do whatever possible to ensure our service adds value to our clients and service providers businesses also.”

“Our oldest client still operating with us goes back to the early 1920s: Mr Chris Wang and his family and forefathers began business with us and grew to become David Wang Imports. They were one of the first major importers from China, and their company became a backbone of our business through the 1950s to 1980s. Along with the amount of people Chris has referred to our business, he has been a true friend of ours over many, many decades.”

Secon Logistics is another who as a provider of Transport Services have been a great ally of Clarke Global’s for over 25 years. “It’s amazing how clients remember the last leg of the service,” Mr Kline says. “If this isn’t performed well it leaves a bad taste, and we have been lucky that these have been few and far between.”
