In a bid to safeguard against unlawful interference with civil aviation in Australia, airfreight cargo originating from, or transitioning through Egypt, Bangladesh, Syria, Yemen and Somalia is now prohibited under recent changes to the Aviation Transport Security Act 2004.

Some exceptions apply to cargo originating from, or transiting through Egypt and Bangladesh, such as letters, small items and live animals.

The Act applies to aviation industry participants, and failure to comply is an offence under section 65C of the Act.
