Update on China Shipments Schedule Delays

International shipping schedules have recently faced significant disruptions due to two unavoidable external factors: the impact of Super Typhoon Huajiasha and the upcoming National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday period in China.

1. Impact of Super Typhoon Huajiasha

Shenzhen was recently struck by Super Typhoon Huajiasha, with winds reaching up to Level 17. This extreme weather event severely disrupted port operations, resulting in major congestion at Shenzhen ports. Vessel departures from Shenzhen have consequently been delayed, and the congestion has created a knock-on effect, slowing down shipment schedules at other major northern ports including Qingdao, Shanghai, and Ningbo.

2. National Day & Mid-Autumn Festival Peak Period

The upcoming National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holidays — one of the most important annual holiday periods in China — have created additional challenges. In preparation for the holiday demand gap, shipping lines traditionally build up stock levels beforehand. This pre-holiday shipping surge has intensified port congestion and increased vessel scheduling pressures. As a result, delays or roll-overs during this period are very difficult to avoid.
