PONDUS Weighing Device to be introduced at DPW Brisbane

The Pondus Stand calibrated weighing device will now be introduced at DP World Brisbane terminal from 1st January 2026. This innovative weighing device was first implemented in Australia back in January 2022 to more accurately verify and record the weight of shipping containers prior to vessel loading, for safety and regulatory compliance.

DP World currently has this technology at their Melbourne, Sydney and Fremantle terminals.  It can also be found at Patrick Terminals in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Fremantle.

A reminder to shippers and importers, it is your responsibility to ensure that the correct weight of the container is documented prior to loading.  Any unit having an absolute weight variance greater than one metric tonne compared to the declared weight will attract the “weight mis-declaration fee for import cargo”.   This fee is published in the Landside Charges notification on the 28^th of November and is available on the DPW Customer Portal.  If incurred, it will appear on your 1-Stop invoice and customers will have access to a certified weighing certificate confirming the weight discrepancy.  All fees are exclusive of GST.

Containers that record an absolute weight variance less than one metric tonne, will not incur the fee. 

Our advice to importers, when communicating with overseas suppliers, is to instruct them to ensure that the weight on the bill of lading is correct and is always the gross mass of the packed goods, in accordance with SOLAS VGM (Safety of Life at Sea/Verified Gross Mass) regulations.
