Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) Shipping: RoRo shipping is ideal for wheeled or tracked machinery that can be driven onto and off specialised vessels. It’s a cost-effective solution for items like construction vehicles, agricultural machinery, and other mobile equipment.

Container Shipping: For machinery and equipment that can be dismantled or fits within standard or oversized containers, this method offers secure transportation and protection from the elements. Flat rack containers are often used for larger, non-containerisable items, providing a platform for securing the cargo.

Break Bulk Shipping: This traditional method involves shipping individual, non-containerized cargo items. It is often used for very large, heavy, or oddly shaped machinery that cannot fit into containers or be rolled on. Specialised lifting equipment and securing techniques are employed.

The most suitable method will depend on the dimensions, weight, nature, and sensitivity of your machinery or equipment, as well as the origin and destination.

Importing machinery involves more than just shipping—it requires understanding local regulations and preparing appropriate documentation:

Regulatory Compliance

Australia has robust import regulations designed to protect the environment, ensure safety, and maintain technical standards. Depending on the type of machinery, you may need to meet:

• Biosecurity controls (particularly for used equipment that may contain soil or plant matter)

• Safety and emissions standards

Imported machinery is subject to Australian import duties (typically around 5% of the FOB value) and 10% GST on the total landed cost. Some goods may also attract anti-dumping duties or benefit from reduced tariffs under Free Trade Agreements.
